At the Autumnal Equinox (Sept 22, 2008; 11:44:18 A.M. EDT), the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator, from north to south; this marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.

I love Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies of the Fall. I have a book filled with these cute little fairies. Each year I tell my kids the story of a fairy family that moves into our attic when the weather begins to turn cold. We whisper when we talk about them -- since we don't want them to know, that we know, about their secret location.
