Medical Appointments

_
__

I am off to my yearly mammogram and gyn appointments. I am even having my hormone levels checked - for the first time. I don't have any signs of perimenopause yet, but I know it's right around the corner. I've decided to move myself up higher on my list of priorities this year. Why is this so difficult to do? Such is the life of all women.
_
Some information all women (my age especially) should know.
_
Typical Perimenopausal Symptoms:
_
Around age 40, women’s bodies begin perimenopause, the transition leading to menopause. Many women sail through “the change” without any symptoms at all. Others experience a wide range of symptoms, all of which have physical, emotional, and psychological aspects. During the years before menopause levels of progesterone typically decline, while estrogen levels remain stable or even increase. This is the most significant issue for the majority of women; many of the early symptoms that women feel are due to progesterone levels that are too low, in relation to their levels of estrogen. This state of a low progesterone-to-estrogen ratio is also referred to as “estrogen dominance.” Some of the symptoms that women suffer when progesterone declines include:
_
Breast swelling and tenderness
_
Mood swings
_
“Fuzzy thinking”
_
Irritability
_
Trouble sleeping
_
Water retention
_
PMS
_
Weight gain

You can tell them what you have on hand in the kitchen and get recipes suggestions to help you clean out your fridge and save money at the same time. : )

I've been in Menopause for 2+ years now. I remember peri-menopause like it was yesterday.

I got the worst of menopause weight gain. I hate that the most. I don't know why we have to gain weight what benefits is that.

The only thing I like about it, is that I don't need to worry about the monthly visitor coming when I least expect it.

Ciao

Hi Sabina, great post. I will be 45 this year, go for checks every six months. About five years ago I read about how asian women dont get the menopause (in Professor Jane Plants book "Your Life In Your Hands")and how researchers believe it is linked to western diet, particularly dairy produce, and how soya is an excellent alternative to dairy produce and can help alleviate the symptoms of menopause. This research has been viewed with some skeptisism. Thank you for the post. Hugs Margie.

Hope your appointment went well. I had some symptoms of early menopause about 18 months ago. I had hormone checks but the doctor said everything was ok but went on to advise me to get on with having the additional baby we wanted. Luckily I managed to get pregnant (at 43) and am halfway through but I'm still mindful that the menopause is probably just around the corner!
