This is a great item I found in the March issue of Domino Magazine. I haven't quite been able to make the switch to fluorescent bulbs. The garage is one thing but giving up the soft lighting of our home has stopped me dead in my tracks. I've also heard about the mercury issue that goes along with fluorescent bulbs. This just might be the solution I've been searching for.

LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) which offer a warmer and more pleasant glow than fluorescents and are poised for an illumination takeover. The Department of Energy estimates that their widespread use could cut energy consumption 29 percent by 2025. Plus they don't contain the mercury that's been an issue in the disposal of compact fluorescents.

I'm with you on the fluorescent bulbs. The mercury issue is a huge problem. It's like trading one issue for another issue.
$14.95 is a heft price tag. I'm going to have to investigate and see how long they last. If you replaced bulbs as they burned out it might not be so bad.

It might be worth the price just for the warmer light. Fluorescent bulbs may be environmentally green, but they make everything in the room look garishly green. Thanks for the suggestion.
We have lots of flouresants in our house.. to be green and save money. But, we have been waiting with great excitement for these. I think the prices will come way down in a year or two and then I want to put them everywhere.
Have you seen some of the new LED Christmas lights as well? They are lovely and very energy efficient! :)
I will try one of these out an write an update on how well it worked - hopefully the prices will come down with time.
