The Family Man

Christmas Movie

Everyone in our house loves this movie!! We watch it every year!!

We live in a world of consumerism, where it seems what everyone strives for is more money, more toys, and more attractive partners. He who does not commit his life to the pursuit of these things, he who does not put in the extra hours at work, and he who does not wind up driving the latest car or purchasing the biggest home is seen as weak, unsuccessful, and unattractive. This image of success is often created and then perpetuated by Hollywood. It is then very refreshing to see Hollywood produce a movie which turns this all upside-down. For in the end we see that a man who passes up the corporate ladder to work as a tire salesman, a man who drives a mini-van and changes diapers, and a man who must sacrifice his own time and happiness in order to please his family is the strongest in character, the most successful in life, and is envied by all.

I should see this movie..though I have not heard of it here. We lose ourselves in pursuit of many things..we lose perspective on what is really important - the family. Money, fame and power can eat up everything..Happy week ahead Sabina :D

Hi just love this movie-but I love anything Mr. Cage is in-my favorite is Moonstruck, being the nY Italian that I am!! Hollywood does let us all believe in the fantasy world of perfection doesn't it most of the time.

Sabina...This is one of my all-time favorite movies too. I never tire of watching it. I am so glad you put in a picture of my favorite scene with the little girl telling Nicholas Cage that the aliens did a good job with his face. This movie is sweet, tender, funny, and inspiring. A classic with a real message! Can't wait until it comes on again...Rosemary

Hi Sabina, that looks like a really good movie. I have not heard of it, but will definitely watch it over the holidays. I love movies that inspire and I think that it is very important for humanity that we relook at what it means to be human. Thanks for the post and thank you for visitng my blog and leaving your lovely comment. hugs Margie.
