Friday's Photos - An Organic House

When I saw this house in Green Parent Magazine it reminded me so much of a hobbit's home - warm and friendly - tucked away in the Shire. This home may be going to the extreme, in terms of being "Eco friendly", but it's definitely worth checking out.

A young Welsh couple intent on building a low-impact, self-sufficient home in natural surroundings for their growing family. Starting out with no capital to speak of, no experience as a builder and using a minimal set of basic tools, Simon, his wife and his father-in-law, along with a little help from visiting friends and passersby, were able to construct this charming, functional home using local materials over a period of four months. It was built with maximum regard for the environment at a cost of £3000(a little under $5000.00). There are a number of projects making this a reality in Britain and Ireland and plenty of resources to support green building ideas. This makes for lots of wonderful innovation.

This looks like the ultimate tree house--Robinson Crusoe comes to mind as well as the Shire. How lucky for those kids to grow up that way & kudos to the parents for undertaking such a thing.

Here in earthquake country I don't know if it'd fly but I'd love to see some version of it here.

I can only begin to imagine how happy children can be growing up in such a house. The tales about magical forests, fairies, elves and others, and the close contact to nature...
Thanks for sharing this. I've been reading your blog for some time now, but hadn't commented before. I love it, it's beautiful and always interesting.
Cheers from Chile, another earthquake country.

Wow, like hobbits or fairies - I would LOVE a house like that. Love the moss on the roof. How cool for a kid to grow up in such a place.

I want to go visit there, but for now, I will just love the pictures...

: ) Have a wonderful weekend, Sabina. You find the most interesting things to share with us here!

It does look like a hobbit house, or one that fairies live in - I could never live in that but I am glad someone in the world is that eco-conscious-and what a way for their children to grow up--like in a fairytale!

Odd about the first few comments, my first thought upon seeing this home was about earthquakes! I don't even live in typical earthquake area! But can you imagine living in such a place? What a dream come true.
